Project and Structured Finance

Project Finance is a technique rather than a product.

It consists of structuring the financing for a project wholly or partly on the credit of the project itself, so that the project revenue is the sole or primary source of repayment. I.e. lenders will have no, or only limited, recourse to the project's sponsors.

The technique is particularly appropriate to finance joint ventures where there are two or more owners with different interests and varying balance sheet strengths.

Projects with significant capital expenditures, which will produce an identifiable and segregable revenue stream are ideal candidates for project financing. Industries suitable for project finance include:

  • Natural Resources
  • Natural Resources Derivatives, such as Petrochemicals
  • Power Generation
  • Transport Infrastructure
  • Telecommunications
  • Water Treatment
